McDade, Texas – With its downtown area slightly north of Highway 290, McDade is located eight miles southeast of Elgin in Bastrop County. Incorporated June 28, 1873, this historical town’s early reputation was known to be more notorious than Tombstone and Deadwood combined during the late 1860s through the mid 1880s. Also known as “Tie City,” McDade is named in honor of James W. McDade, a Brenham lawyer for the Houston & Texas Central Railroad.
