A rural community in nature it was founded in the mid 1800′s a bit earlier than Bateman. The tiny settlement was first called Hannah Land and the area contains soil and rocks with a very high iron content. Old stories relate the community received its name after the red rock chimney of the first settler’s (James Brewer) house in the 1850s. Red Rock is in the Bastrop ISD and one of the schools is located right on Highway 21. Red Rock is about 35 minutes outside of Austin and about 20 minutes away from Bastrop.The tiny settlement was first called Hannah Land. The community prospered in the early 1900s as a market center for cotton and today remains primarily an agricultural and cattle raising area
