Smithville is in Bastrop County Texas, and is now being coined as the town in the heart of the “megalopolis,” nestled conveniently between Houston, San Antonio and Austin, just off Hwy 71.

About Smithville

Don’t let the term megalopolis scare you off if you are looking for a quaint town without all of the hustle and bustle of big city life – because that is what Smithville is all about! Smithville developed as a rail town along the Colorado River. Main Street is only about 6 blocks long and has lots of wonderful antique and collectibles shops and there are a couple of restaurants and pubs. The historic district has lots of wonderful vintage and historic homes and it is a great place to take a stroll and the residents decorate their neighborhoods seasonally which makes those walks all the more entertaining.

Shopping and amenities for Smtihville

Smithville has Main Street with it’s great antique and collectibles stores. It also hosts a number of local restaurants and pubs. There is a local grocery store, pharmacy, flower shop, as well as other local shops that provide a number of different services. For larger grocery chains Bastrop is only 13 miles away and Austin is approx. 45 minutes for anything else one might need.

Things to do in Smithville

The historic district is a great place to stroll and see the old homes. There is information available at the Chamber of Commerce and the Historical Society. If you like river fishing there is a bait shop in town where you can license and get bait and tackle. The Riverbend Park is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a day with playground and picnic area under the massive historic oaks along the banks of the Colorado. If you kayak Smithville is a great place to put your kayak in or out. Riverbend Park is also the spot where the annual Thunder on the Colorado bike rally happens every spring.
