Bastrop County is located in Central Texas southeast of Travis county where Austin is located. Bastrop County is also bordered by Lee County, Fayette County and Caldwell County and Williamson County even touches it on the northern most tip.

The seat of Bastrop County is the town of Bastrop which is located approximately 34 miles south east of the Capital City of Austin. Other larger towns in Bastrop County include Smithville on Highway 71, a Colorado River town, and Elgin in the northern portion of the county on Highway 290 ,which runs between the big cities of Austin and Houston,
There are some smaller townships such as Rosanky which is south of Bastrop at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road 535 and Highway 304, Cedar Creek located on Highway 21 between Bastrop and Lockhart in Caldwell County, and Paige which is on the eastern edge of Bastrop County on Highway 21 .

Bastrop County is very diverse and offers something for everyone. The Colorado River meanders through the County and there are many parks along it’s way. Two noteworthy parks are Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop and Riverbend Park in Smithville. Bastrop County is home to a number of great parks that offer hiking and riding trails and lakes. The biggest lake in Bastrop County is Lake Bastrop.
