Smithville began as a small settlement on the Colorado River in the 1800’s. When rail lines began to criss cross the country Smithville also became a rail town as it is still today.

Smithville has been the host to a number of movie productions the most famous of which is Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock. If you want to get a feel for life in small town Smithville the movie is pretty spot on. There is a large historical district with wonderful historic and vintage homes and downtown is very quaint with it’s local restaurants and antique shops.
