Bastrop has a beautiful river walk along the Colorado River between the Old Iron Bridge ( Chestnut/150 Loop and the current Hwy 71 bridge. It is about a one mile walk between the Ferry Park located on Water Street and Fishermans Park which is located at the end of Farm Street. This riverwalk was constructed around 1998 and dedicated to J. Pape. There is ample parking at Fisherman’s Park but limited parking along Water Street. During the Christmas Holiday the river walk is decorated and very pretty to walk at night but is always a great walk any time of the year!

Our riverwalk in Canon City looks very similar, yet different. We are so fortunate that the Colorado Lottery funds go to support parks in our state. The Riverwalk in Canon City is better than 6 miles now and growing. And it’s always busy. But we don’t decorate ours, to bad.
I don’t remember the river walk in Canon City….maybe you can post some pictures or already have something on your website – will have to check it out. This is a tiny river walk in Bastrop. You should see the one along Lady Bird Lake ( our Colorado River…) in Austin now that is something! Are people buying up river property like mad up there?
I am surprised Bastrop does not promote its great downtown area more. I can imagine this river area is a great place to hold all sorts of spring festivals.
There is a wonderful park – Fisherman’s Park – that is at the end of the River Walk just below the Iron Bridge that they use for festivals and such. One thing Bastrop needs is more parking for downtown events!
