My brokerage, Sky Realty, is having another blood drive for the Blood Center of Central Texas this coming Saturday, September 4th at the main office in Austin located at 4501 Spicewood Springs – between the hours of 10 and 3 pm. We are looking for as many donors as possible. Blood supplies dwindle as needs spike during holiday weekends such as the upcoming Labor Day and each donation can mean the difference between life and death for someone. There will be free coffee donated by Starbucks, balloons for the kids from Zippy the Clown, drawings/giveaways. There are some health conditions that may prevent people from donating blood. If you meet the donation criteria and want to schedule a time to donate please contact Curtis Reddehaus at 512-342-8734 and tell him Deb sent you. I can’t be there as I am recovering from a very recent surgery and am on an antibiotic regime that disqualies me from donating.

If you are looking for a great day trip or a place to camp for a weekend and you don’t want to leave the Austin area consider visiting McKinney Falls State Park. Originally a thoroughbred horse and cattle ranch for one of Austin’s “old 300″ Thomas McKinney in the mid 1800’s it is now a wonderful hidden gem not 15 minutes from the State Capital building!

Onion Creek follows along an old lava flow and the water flow has carved out some beautiful falls into some large natural water pools and are beautiful when flowing and fresh during the wetter months of the year.

The remnants of the original homestead and trainer’s home are still standing in the park and can be viewed from existing hiking trails. There are campsites along the creek and it is managed as a Texas State Park.

This is one of the spots that my husband and I visit during the summer for a quick dip in the pools to cool off when we aren’t working. And speaking of working, if you are looking for a Realtor who enjoys the outdoors as much as she enjoys her real estate business – working with both Buyers and Sellers in Bastrop and surrounding counties – please contact me, I would love to work with you.

Central Texas and the areas surrounding Austin area offers lots of different real estate choices for horse enthusiasts from a big Texas sized farm and ranch properties to planned equestrian developments and all things in between. You can be down by the River in Bastrop County, or along a creek in Jarrell, by a lake in Austin, or out in the Hill Country in Dripping Springs! This area has it all!

When my husband and I moved to Texas with our fifteen paint horses we looked long and hard at many different areas before deciding on our ranch along the Colorado River in Bastrop. One of the criteria for the choice we made was that we were NOT wanting to be in a development of any kind. We were looking for unrestricted property with an newer upscale home and horse set up and pastures so we could put up our own feed. But for many horse owners developments that are horse friendly have a great appeal and having lived in an equestrian development, functioning as a Realtor specializing in that specific area as well as being the HOA president I do understand the appeal.

Here in Bastrop County there are choices for horse friendly properties that include La Reata Ranches, The Colony, and River Crossing and I am very familiar with all of them.

Here is a short list of some of equestrian and horse friendly developments in the areas surrounding Austin. This is only a basic list of some of the developments, keep in mind there are lots of other choices. Some of these developments have community barns, arenas, trails, and others promote individual horse ownership and care.
