The entry to the South Shore park turn off is on Hwy 21. The North Shore park entry is off of FM 1441 which can be accessed of of Hwy 95 or Hwy 21 from Bastrop. Both parks and the approx. 900 (surface ) acre lake are managed by the Lower Colorado River Association ( LCRA ). Day fees are minimal and there are also campsites and cabins for rent. This lake was developed as a cooling resevoir for the local power plant. Kayaks and canoes can be rented and there are swimming beaches at both the North and South Shore. There are limitations on the types of boats and the types of fishing on Lake Bastrop which you can read more about on the LCRA website.

There are some wonderful homes and land around Lake Bastrop. Please call me if you would like more information.512-237-1242

One of the ways that people who purchase acreage here in Bastrop and surrounding counties can clear their property is to hire a contractor who will come in with a dozer.

Owners walk the property with the contractor and the discuss what trees they would like to retain such as large oaks or large pines and what brush and scrub they would like removed such as cedar and mesquite. Cedar trees are huge water hogs and mesquites spread like wild fire!

The contractor then dozes the areas and creates burn piles. On a day when conditions are appropriate, such as high dew point, after a recent rainfall, and when there is little to no wind the piles are burned.

In Bastrop County you should request a burn permit from the fire department which is fairly easy to do. It is important to let them know that you are going to burn so they are aware of it and don’t roll on a potential forest/grass fire. Last year 1200+ acres of woodland and pasture land and a few homes burned in a dry and windy spell. There are burn bans when the area is droughty or the conditions are not right for a controlled burn.

Here is a picture of one of my neighbors who is clearing more of his property to create larger pastures for his herd of designer deer.

Interesting to see that there has been a solid migration from Southern California as well as Central Arizona ( my old stomping grounds! ) and relocation in and out of Bastrop County to and from other counties in Central Texas. I wonder how many of them moved with their horses?

This is an awesome relocation map published by Forbes that reflects data from the Internal Revenue Service date collected that shows migration to and from Bastrop County Texas.

When we considered our move to Texas with our horses the sandy loam soil and beautiful pastures along with Bastrop County’s growth and central location hooked me!

If you or anyone you know is considering a relocation to or from Bastrop County, especially with horses contact me! I would love to put my experience to work for you!
